Fairy Meadows is one of those places that surprises even seasoned travellers. It sits at roughly 3,300 metres, ringed by ancient pine trees, and directly facing Nanga Parbat — the world's ninth-highest mountain and one of the most formidable peaks on Earth. The meadow itself is soft and green in summer, alive with wildflowers and the sound of distant streams. At night, the sky above is a wall of stars with no light pollution to soften it.

Carry your Passport and valid Pakistani visa along with some hard cpies.
The 4x4 jeep track from Raikot Bridge to Tatu Village is widely ranked among the most thrilling and sheer cliff-hanging dirt roads in the world. If you have severe vertigo, prepare mentally; drivers are exceptionally experienced locals who navigate these tracks daily.
Babusar Pass typically opens only between June and late October. Outside of these months, snow blocks the pass, forcing all traffic to detour via the longer lower Karakoram Highway (Besham route).
Pacing Yourself: You will rapidly gain altitude—rising from Islamabad (540 m) up to Fairy Meadows (3,300 m) and Nanga Parbat Base Camp (3,962 m) within a few days.
Money & Connectivity
Cash is King: ATMs are available in Karimabad (Hunza), but they frequently run out of cash or experience power outages. Carry sufficient Pakistani Rupees (PKR) in cash from Islamabad or Chilas before heading deep into the mountains.
Mobile Network: SCOM (the local telecom network in Gilgit-Baltistan) is the only provider that works reliably in remote areas like Fairy Meadows and Upper Hunza. Standard cellular networks (Jazz, Zong, Telenor) often lose signal past Chilas.
